TEATA was founded 10 years ago to fill an important niche in Thailand's tourism sector, that is the development of quality nature- and culture-based tourism. With generous support from the Tourism and Sport Ministry and Tourism Authority of Thailand, TEATA has grown steadily both in membership and in its impact on the tourism industry. As an association, TEATA has undertaken many activities to raise the standard of eco-tourism. These include: training of 50 eco-tourism guides; regular courses to improve the knowledge and guiding skills of nature guides in fields such as forest ecology, bird-watching, and traditional canal life; and publishing standards for safety and service in every aspect of adventure travel.
TEATA's individual member companies are experts in a wide range of nature and adventure activities, all pledged to the goals of low-impact and sustainable tourism, They offer tourists the whole gamut of outdoor activities, including bird watching, star gazing, scuba diving, jungle trekking, kayaking, rock climbing, mountain biking, nature interpretation and camping, community-based tourism and wildlife conservation. Many have distinguished themselves by earning the highly competitive Thailand Tourism Award.
On behalf of TEATA, I would like to express sincere appreciation to all the government and private agencies which have given us their kind cooperation and support over these years and also thank all our members, who actively support the association and help build up more responsible tourism in Thailand.
