Community Based Tourism

It is not only a country of stunning natural beauty and historical riches which so many people come to love Thailand, it's for her fascinating culture and friendly people. This culture can be seen everywhere in the food, in the language, in the arts, in people hospitality. It informs everything, the way people talk, smile, and act.

Thailand is the only country in Southeast Asia that has never colonized. And her exotic custom and traditions remain strong today, a great source of pleasure for all those who witness them.

Thailand's religion is Theravada Buddhism, and along with the beloved monarchy are the most revered in the kingdom. Temples, monasteries and Buddha images are in every corner of the country. Buddhist values pervade daily life in Thailand, the virtue of compassion being the most highly prized.

Certain phrases in Thai language describe what Thais regards as ideal behavior and attitude. Greng-jai means to show considerate respect and generosity to others. Also prized are the values of being polite, su-paab, and well-mannered.

Thais have a famously relaxed attitude to life, an attitude summed up in the phrases, sa-bai- sa-bai, take it easy, jai- yen- yen, have a warm heart, and mai- pen- rai, it doesn't matter. Another thing that makes a visit here so enjoyable is Thais emphasis of fun, or sa-nuk.

Thai people especially respect and value visitors who emulate their politeness, generosity and relaxed, non-confrontational view on life.

Thai people also like people to enjoy themselves.

Perhaps the best way to help preserve and enjoy Thai culture is to take part in it. Thais are very tolerant and inclusive, and it's almost always a source of pride and pleasure when visitors show a wish to be involved in Thai ways of life as a participant, rather than just an observer.

The above attitude of life is clearly seen everywhere both in urban area and rural area. But if you would like to touch the real Thai ways, it's better for you to visit local villages, where Westernization is very less. Nowadays, there are many villages appropriate for tourists to visit in all regions as follows:.

Central Plain: Baan Thaka & Ampawa in Samutsongkram, Baan Nong Khao & Baan Tha Lek in Kanchanaburi, Baan Yang Thong in Angthong, etc.

The North: Baan Thung Luang in Sukothai, Baan Huay Nam Rin & Mae Chaem & Mae Kampong in Chiang Mai, Baan Jakue in Chiang Rai & many hilltribe villages in Chiang Mai, Chiang Rai, Mae Hong Son, and Nan (There are six major hilltribes in Thailand - Karen, Hmong, Akha, Mien, Lahu, Lisu), etc.

The South: Baan Na Teen in Krabi, Baan Koh Yao Noi in Phang Nga, Baan Kiriwong in Nakorn Sri Thammarat, Baan Thalae Nok in Ranong, etc.

The Northeast: Baan Nong Pue Noi & Baan Kum & Baan Tamui & Baan Tha Long in Ubol Ratchathani, Baan Kok Charoen in Buriram, Baan Bua in Sakol Nakorn, Baan Prasart in Nakorn Ratchasima, Baan Chiang in Udorn Thani, etc.
